Sorry if this hits where it hurts but it's time fo Sorry if this hits where it hurts but it's time for a reality check.

When it comes to running our own business, we never have enough time. This might look like....

❌ wiggling in your chair to send *one more email* instead of popping to the loo. 

❌ eating your lunch at your desk with one hand instead of just moving to the sofa away from the computer screen

❌ panicking about the missed calls on your mobile whilst still not actually answering the calls

❌ All the while you're stressing because you're not doing enough, you don't 'deserve' to have a successful business somehow....

The way I see it, there are 3 reasons you don't have time to work ON your business (the marketing stuff)

1. You're worried about making mistakes. Guess what? Mistakes happen. It's actually about how you recover from those mistakes that matters, not the mistake itself. So you can make that apology, you can rectify and the world will not end. I promise.

2. You're stressing about being perfect. Oooh I know this one well. We want our customers to trust us and we fear that if we do not appear absolutely perfect that they won't. But our perfect and their perfect are actually different. Our perfect goal posts keep changing. They just want a good service / product delivered. Remember that.

3. You're panicking that it won't make any difference anyway. It will and in more ways than one. By setting aside even a small amount of time to work ON your business every week, it has a wonderful ripple effect, like a weight is being lifted on your shoulders.

I've learned these lessons the hard way but I'm so happy to share them.

🤔 How do I know what people are Googling to find someone like me?

🙋‍♀️ Here's the thing about you and your business. You do need to check that the words and phrases YOU use to describe what you do is the same to what your potential clients and customers use to describe what you do. Otherwise, you and your audience *out there* are going to keep missing each other like an annoying 90s rom com <oh what a misunderstanding, lol>

Here's just 3 super simple steps you can take to fix that right now:

1️⃣ Write a list of your products, product ranges + services, programs, courses, whatever you sell, make, create, offer.

2️⃣ Edit that list by adding all the counties + towns you work in. If it's everywhere, you can skip this step and head straight to 3.

3️⃣ Head to KeywordsEverywhere and pay $10USD to create an account and install as a Chrome extension. Now plug in every phrase on your list from steps 1️⃣ + 2️⃣ , one at a time and you'll be given the approximate number of people searching for that phrase this month. Pretty cool huh?

You can then use the most popular phrases from your list in your website pages + blog posts in order to get more eyes on your content. 

So go ahead and save this post so you're ready to take these 3 steps.

This was popular on my Stories so it deserves its This was popular on my Stories so it deserves its own post…what lessons have you learned in your time in business?

10 years ago I was this baby face not knowing wtf she was doing, terrified of everything but being loud with it all the time just in case anyone found her out.

This Maddy started freelancing as a writer, social media manager, VA, transcriber, SEO person, web designer, project manager…..you exhausted yet? I was. I loved every minute though.

Here’s what I’ve learned in the 10 years since:

✅ It’s up to you to set your own boundaries and to respect those boundaries otherwise clients NEVER will

✅ Charge well and deliver well. Support your clients to see what they want and help them make decisions. (Don’t just take the money + run, plus you’re more likely to get repeat business + referrals this way!)

✅ Clients may come and go, but your skills, talents and means to make a living always need investing in.

✅ Hard work, tenacity and consistency cannot be underestimated at any stage. It’s a long road and no one will care about your business as much as you do but it’s highly worth it IMHO

✅ there is never a convenient time to launch / branch out / begin. Be inconvenient. Planning these things comes with making mistakes. Don’t beat yourself up too much about it.

✅ No one woman can do this alone. Lean on the emotional support you can find, whether it’s family, friends, pets, membership communities (like my Visibiliyay group!)

✅ If you’re not sure, hit publish anyway. Rather than thinking - what if it all goes wrong, consider what if it all works out really well?

It’s really easy to get your website found on Google.

No hear me out, it really is

The trouble comes when the jargon comes in and it’s all made out like it’s really complex.

One of the easiest ways in the world is to look at your website and think of it without images - is it clear what you sell with your words?

Here’s what you can do:

👉 make sure what you do is in the page title / slogan

👉 make sure you introduce your business and make it about the CUSTOMER not you. You’re there to provide that value to them.

👉 introduce your different services or your best product ranges right on the homepage with links through to those pages to find out more. This will satisfy those lurkers and stalkers we want as customers 🥰
 
If you don’t take these steps, you’re leaving money on the table.

There are steps to take, sure.
It requires effort, sure.
