Maddy Shine is not the name I was born with, but it should have been! I don’t mean that in an “international woman of mystery” kind of way (imagine…), but as in I’ve been running this business for over a decade, and that’s how people know me kind of way.
It’s fitting, because I love to help people shine. As a female SEO consultant in London, I help women + queer-owned business owners all over the UK to take up space online, getting them found on Google with more clicks and more eyeballs.
Doing this work means you flourish offline, too: because when this is taken care of, you have more time and energy to all the other bits of your business where your expertise shines. And in an industry which is full to the brim with spammers and grifters, I love to be an expert on-hand, leaving you feeling confident and empowered in running your business.
I’ve been around a while…
I launched this business back in 2012, but worked in online marketing before that, so I’ve got 13 years experience (and counting) running this business but far more in the online world. In that time I’ve done it all – guested on podcasts, hosted my own, been the keynote speaker at events around the UK, and hosted free trainings to over 1000 people at a time.
Nowadays I focus on doing the SEO for you and I bloody love it.

It’s not all work, shine and play…
When I’m not dissecting the minutiae of metadata (and if that sounds boring, remember: I do it so you don’t have to!), you can usually find me walking or cuddling other people’s dogs, laughing or telling stories down the pub, or chilling on the sofa in my gloriously colourful maximalist home in south London.
I’m also the person who talks openly about mental health, perimenopause and PMDD because I’m living with all three and I think the more we talk about this stuff the better, especially in business.
I’m ADHD, much like many of the entrepreneurs I work with, and I find that the things that make us feel like we’re doing it wrong are often the exact things that make us brilliant at what we do.

I want to make it abundantly clear:
Running your own business as a woman or non-binary person is a political and revolutionary act. I can’t separate running my own business as a woman from politics and I don’t want to.
I continue to make choices that have not always been available to women and I don’t take that lightly.
My choice to be proudly childfree.
My choice to live on my own for six years.
My choice to get a mortgage with my partner with no intention of marrying.

I do not believe in pulling up the ladder behind me.
I am learning every day and I’m intentional about who I support and who is amplified by the work that I do. Running an SEO business means amplifying voices. It means giving women and queer-owned businesses a platform, a presence, and a fighting chance of being found by the people who need them. That’s not incidental to what I do.
I invest in education to be a more inclusive intersectional feminist and that work is ongoing.

How I work on your SEO
Soulless SEO is so dull and not at all motivating. That isn’t the way here.
SEO doesn’t have to be soulless – in fact, the best SEO shouldn’t be. That’s why I’ll always show up in my full humanness when we work together and honour yours, too. It’s also the reason that as a female SEO consultant in London, I specialise in supporting brilliant business women and queer-friendly business owners get more sales through their online presence, in a world that has historically taught them that they need to be less human to succeed.

It’s also why I’ll never blindside you with hidden charges, will only use down-to-earth communication, and love to foster an honest and open relationship where you can ask me anything (but with clear structure and boundaries!).
So that’s the softness: where does the sassy come in? It’s a promise to always give it to you straight and to refuse any confusing jargon, because I know that whilst I’m cracking on with your SEO and website design, you’re cracking on with everything else in your business.

When we work together I won’t just ask you to sign a contract, I’ll also get you to sign my Managing Expectations doc – which means you take responsibility for your side, whilst I do mine to get the job done well. I’ll hold your hand all the way offering clear guidance and support, fierce and loyal allyship, and cheerleading you on, but I’ll also always tell you what you need to hear so that you can see the best results.

I’ve spent years refining how I work so that getting the most out of our time together takes as little of your time as possible. Every client gets
- a bespoke project spreadsheet that maps out everything we’re working on and why
- videos when something is easier to show than explain
- an onboarding questionnaire that means I hit the ground running from day one
- a plain English monthly report that tells you what’s moved, what’s next, and what I need from you.
